At You READ That WRITE, we recognize that many secondary students have developed a deeply "dysfunctional relationship" with reading. They avoid it because their foundational skills stalled years ago, forcing them to find clever ways to compensate, mask their struggles, or simply disengage.

BRIDGES is a soft, relational intervention designed specifically for older learners. It dismantles reading anxiety, restores positive literacy mindsets, and gives students back what they lost along the way: their hope, dignity, and pride.

Designed to completely reframe the reading experience, Bridges begins with a radical first step: offering a genuine apology to the student for how the system has failed them. From there, it leverages the student's personal interests to rebuild authentic enthusiasm for words. Rather than forcing immediate academic metrics, this restorative intervention focuses on reigniting a passion for reading—making it ideal for powerful, one-on-one delivery.

Student Autonomy Behavior Matrix

Teachers are exhausted and it is time to admit that PBIS is not working, at least not in the secondary schools. Behaviorism is an outdated concept when it comes to adolescents who have had access to the world by way of cell phone since they were in early elementary school. That is why YRTW created a new kind of behavior plan for your school - one that frees up teachers and administrators, one that operates utilizing a behavior interventionist and the student and that is all. 

It is built on social credit and the student utilizing opportunities to take initiative to gain back access to passing period with their friends, lunch with their friends, and access to extracurricular activities with their friends. One behavior interventionist or behavior coach, depending on the size and scale of the school; student removal from class when the behavior begins and the process of working their way back in rests on their shoulders and theirs alone. It is a refreshing break from the talley marks and referrals used in the PBIS system. This is also a narrow behavior path only, not interferring or intermingling with academics at all, so the data from this program will be 100% accurate and curated by the students themsel
